A land revenue assessment system based on visual inspection and estimated standing crop yield per unit area (Kut).
Historical background
Kankut's reliance on visual estimation rather than physical measurement made it faster and administratively cheaper than zabt, but also more vulnerable to disputes and corruption — historians studying regional variation in Mughal revenue administration note that kankut tended to persist longest in areas where detailed land measurement was practically difficult to carry out.
