A traditional crop-sharing revenue assessment method where harvested grain is directly partitioned between cultivator and state agent.
Historical background
As essentially another name for the same crop-division principle as batai, ghalla-bakshi's continued use alongside batai in different regional and textual traditions is a useful reminder that medieval Indian administrative vocabulary was never fully standardised across the subcontinent — the same underlying practice could carry different names in different Persian and vernacular administrative traditions.
