The UGC NET exam has no negative marking, and every correct answer across both papers is worth exactly 2 marks — Paper 1 has 50 questions (100 marks) and Paper 2 (your subject, History) has 100 questions (200 marks), for a real total of 300 marks. That means your raw score is simply (Paper 1 correct × 2) plus (Paper 2 correct × 2) — no estimation, no rounding tricks, just that exact arithmetic. Here's something most "predictor" tools online won't tell you plainly: NTA converts raw scores into percentiles separately for every shift, based on that shift's own candidate pool, using an equi-percentile normalisation method — which means your real percentile depends on how everyone else in your specific shift performed, not just your own raw score. No tool outside NTA's own systems can know that shift-wise distribution for a live exam cycle, and we'd rather tell you that honestly than show you a confident-looking percentile number we can't actually back up. What this tool gives you instead is a real, exact score and percentage, compared against reference JRF and Assistant Professor cutoff benchmarks that we keep updated from the latest official NTA cutoff releases — a genuinely useful comparison, just not a false-precision percentile guess.
UGC NET's own real, standard qualifying rule requires a minimum aggregate of 40% for General/EWS candidates and 35% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD candidates — scoring below that means you don't qualify at all that cycle, regardless of anything else. Above that minimum, this tool compares your raw score against reference JRF and Assistant Professor cutoff bands for three grouped categories (General/EWS, OBC-NCL, and SC/ST/PwD), matching how NTA's own cutoff releases are typically reported, and works out exactly how many more correct answers would close the gap to your next real milestone — combined with the quick self-assessment above, that turns into a genuinely personalised "focus here first" recommendation, not just a raw number.
A fully automated version of a tool like this would let you paste your NTA response sheet directly and have every answer auto-matched against a master key, no manual counting required. We haven't built that part yet, on purpose — getting it wrong, even in a small way, would mean silently miscalculating a real candidate's real result, which is a worse outcome than simply asking you to count your own correct answers first. Manual entry, the method live on this page today, gives you the exact same real formula with none of that risk. If an accurate, properly verified automated version becomes possible later, it will be added as a genuine improvement, not shipped early as a shortcut that trades accuracy for convenience.
Once you've calculated your score, you can ask for a short follow-up summary by email — a recap of your real numbers, how they compare against the reference cutoff bands for your category, and a genuinely practical next step based on where your score actually lands. We won't pretend to hand you a fabricated unit-by-unit mark breakdown from just two total correct-answer counts; that level of detail needs your actual per-question responses, which this simple version doesn't collect. What you get instead is an honest, useful read on where you stand today, not manufactured precision dressed up to look more scientific than it really is.
