Historical background
The widespread appearance of microliths across the subcontinent during the Mesolithic marks a significant technological shift toward composite tools (small blades hafted into wood or bone handles), and their distribution has been used by archaeologists to trace the spread of Mesolithic hunter-gatherer populations across diverse and often environmentally very different regions of India.
