Historical background
Mehrgarh's long, continuous occupation sequence — from an aceramic Neolithic phase through several later ceramic and metal-using phases — makes it one of the most important single sites for tracing the gradual transition from hunting-gathering to settled agriculture and eventually urbanism in the broader Indus region, effectively bridging the gap before the mature Harappan cities.
