The jagirdari system's eventual strain — as available assignable revenue land failed to keep pace with the growing number of mansabdars needing jagirs, especially after Mughal territorial expansion under Aurangzeb — is identified by many historians as one of the structural factors contributing to Mughal administrative decline in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.
