Historical background
The ba-shara/be-shara distinction is central to understanding the real diversity within medieval Indian Sufism — far from being a single unified movement, Sufi orders ranged from strict legal conformity to open antinomianism, and this internal spectrum shaped how different orders related to Sultanate and Mughal religious authorities very differently.
