Sufi ascetics, wanderers, or orders who did not bind themselves to traditional Islamic canonical legal codes (Sharia).
Historical background
Be-shara orders' rejection of conventional religious conformity — including practices some ulama considered heretical — periodically brought them into tension with orthodox Islamic authorities at Sultanate and Mughal courts, making the ba-shara/be-shara divide a genuine fault line in medieval Indian religious politics, not just a scholarly classification.
