Historical background
The Warkari tradition's annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur, still actively practised today by hundreds of thousands of devotees, makes it one of the few medieval Bhakti movements with an essentially unbroken, continuously living devotional practice rather than a purely historical phenomenon studied only through texts.
