Historical background
The qazi's authority to interpret and apply Islamic law made the office a crucial interface between religious jurisprudence and everyday governance — surviving qazi court records, where they exist, are a valuable and still under-exploited source for social historians studying everyday disputes, property, and family law in Sultanate and Mughal India.
