Historical background
Nationalist historiography, while genuinely valuable in countering colonial-era distortions, has itself been critiqued by later historians for sometimes constructing an idealised, insufficiently critical narrative of India's precolonial past — a critique that doesn't diminish the school's real historical importance but adds necessary nuance to how it's studied today.
