Written partly as a dialogue between an "Editor" (representing Gandhi's own views) and a "Reader" (representing a young Indian nationalist attracted to violent revolutionary methods), Hind Swaraj rejected not just British rule but the entire model of industrial modernity — railways, machinery, modern medicine, and parliamentary democracy — making it one of the most radical critiques within the national movement, one Gandhi himself never fully renounced even as Congress economic policy later diverged from it.
