A voluntary land reform movement started by Vinoba Bhave in 1951 at Pochampally to induce wealthy landowners to donate land to the landless.
Historical background
While Bhoodan generated real enthusiasm and substantial land pledges in its early years, historians studying its long-term impact generally note that a large share of pledged land was of poor quality or never actually transferred to landless recipients — making it a useful case study in the gap between a movement's moral appeal and its practical implementation.

यद्यपि भूदान ने अपने प्रारंभिक वर्षों में वास्तविक उत्साह और पर्याप्त भूमि-प्रतिज्ञाएँ उत्पन्न कीं, इसके दीर्घकालिक प्रभाव का अध्ययन करने वाले इतिहासकार सामान्यतः नोट करते हैं कि प्रतिज्ञा की गई भूमि का एक बड़ा हिस्सा या तो निम्न गुणवत्ता का था या भूमिहीन प्राप्तकर्ताओं को वास्तव में कभी हस्तांतरित नहीं किया गया।
