An arch constructed with wedge-shaped stones (voussoirs) radiating from a central keystone, introduced systematically by Muslims.
Historical background
The true arch's structural efficiency, distributing weight evenly through its wedge-shaped voussoirs down to its supporting piers, allowed Indo-Islamic builders to construct larger interior spaces and taller domes than the corbelled arch techniques used in earlier indigenous Indian architecture.
