Historians conventionally trace the Renaissance's origins to Florence, where wealthy patron families like the Medici funded artists and scholars, but the movement's real significance lies in its shift toward humanism — the belief that human reason and achievement, not only divine will, shaped the world. This intellectual shift indirectly enabled the later Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment, making the Renaissance a genuine hinge point between the medieval and modern worlds, not simply an artistic flowering.
