Historical background
The Muventar concept is central to how Sangam literature itself constructs early Tamil political identity — the constant interplay and rivalry among the three crowned lines forms the backdrop to much Sangam poetry, and modern historians use these same poems, cautiously, as one of the only sources for reconstructing early historic Tamil political geography.
