Industrial Revolution (औद्योगिक क्रांति)

English

Periodc. 1760–1840, spreading globally through the 19th century Exam importanceHigh

The transition (beginning in Britain, late 18th century) from hand production to machine manufacturing, fundamentally transforming economies, urbanisation, and social class structures worldwide.

Understand it like this

Why Britain specifically industrialised first — rather than France, which had comparable scientific knowledge — remains a genuinely debated question among economic historians, with explanations ranging from Britain's coal and iron deposits to its more flexible labour markets and colonial capital inflows. The Industrial Revolution's connection to colonialism is a frequently tested angle: industrialising Europe needed raw materials and markets, directly intensifying the scramble for colonies in Asia and Africa.
