Historical background
The existence of a specialised correspondence and diplomatic-communication department shows how seriously the Delhi Sultanate treated written protocol and formal communication with other courts — surviving insha literature (see the historiography section's own Insha entry) partly originates from exactly this kind of administrative correspondence tradition.
