Historical background
Historical causation is rarely treated by serious historians as a single, isolatable factor — most historiographical schools distinguish between long-term structural causes, medium-term conditions, and short-term triggers, a layered approach historians trace back partly to E.H. Carr's influential methodological writing on the philosophy of history.
