The system shows how Vijayanagara balanced central authority with delegated military power — a tension that eventually contributed to the empire's fragmentation, as amaram-nayakas built increasingly autonomous regional bases. It invites comparison with the Sultanate's iqta and the Mughal jagirdari system, all solving the same problem — paying a standing military without a fully monetized treasury — through territorial revenue assignments rather than cash.
