The Akali Movement's success in securing the Sikh Gurdwaras Act (1925) is often cited as one of the more successful early-twentieth-century religious reform campaigns, establishing a lasting institutional structure (the SGPC) that continues to govern major Sikh religious sites today — a rare case where a colonial-era reform movement produced an institution still functioning largely unchanged a century later.
