An ancient heterodox (non-Vedic) philosophical sect founded by Makkhali Gosala, centred on the doctrine of Niyati (strict determinism/fatalism) — that all events are predetermined and human effort cannot alter destiny, distinguishing it from the karma-based free-will frameworks of Buddhism and Jainism.
