The collection and academic study of historical information using recorded interviews with individuals who experienced past events.
Historical background
Oral history methodology gained significant academic legitimacy from the mid-twentieth century onward, particularly valuable for reconstructing the historical experience of groups — including much of the peasantry, women, and marginalised communities — who left comparatively few surviving written records of their own.
