As the Satavahana-Vakataka regional land unit, nivartana appears frequently in Deccan copper-plate inscriptions, and comparing its stated area across different charters has allowed historians to attempt rough conversions between ancient regional land units — though exact modern equivalents remain debated given inconsistent usage across sources.
